Pest control in the UK: local guides and costs

Quick answer: in the UK your first stop is usually the local council. Some councils treat rats free, most charge a fixed fee per pest, and a few now offer no domestic service at all. Private firms fill the gaps. The guides below set out what councils actually publish, city by city.

Pest control in the UK is patchy by design. Each council decides whether to run a domestic service, which pests it covers, who can use it and what it charges. Two neighbouring London boroughs can charge very different amounts for the same rat treatment, and one city may treat rats free while another has cut its service back to rats only.

Our local guides are built from the fee pages councils publish, read in September 2026, with national private-sector ranges alongside so you can compare. Scotland has its own renting rules, and the Glasgow guide covers those.

Comparing UK providers

If you already know you want a private firm, our UK pest control options comparison lists providers, and you can ask for quotes with one short form.

Best Pest Control Quotes is a comparison and referral service, not a pest control company. We do not carry out treatments, and a listing here is not a recommendation.
