Pest control costs in Ireland (2026): what people pay by pest

Quick answer: Most one-off domestic pest treatments in Ireland are quoted between about €70 and €500. Wasp nests sit at the low end, rats and mice usually cost a few hundred euro over two or three visits, and bed bugs and cockroaches cost the most. In Dublin city and county only, the HSE treats rats free of charge for eligible households.

Reported typical ranges by pest

Ireland’s councils do not publish domestic pest control fee tables in the way many UK councils do, so the private ranges below come from two published sources: HomePros.ie, a trades quote platform that publishes a national price guide, and Central Pest Control, a Dublin firm that publishes its own typical prices. Treat them as reported typical ranges, not quotes. Every range was checked in September 2026.

Outside Dublin there is no equivalent free HSE service. The Irish Times reported in May 2024 that infestations outside the capital are dealt with by private companies or, in some cases, local authorities. Under the Rats and Mice (Destruction) Act 1919 the occupier of land is responsible for dealing with rats on it.

Why quotes differ

  • Visits: rodent work usually needs a survey, treatment and one or more follow-ups. The HSE’s own Dublin team leaves bait in place for 35 days before re-surveying.
  • Proofing: sealing gaps and checking drains adds time and materials, but stops repeat problems.
  • Access and height: a wasp nest in a roof void or high eave costs more than one at ground level.
  • Timing: evening, weekend and bank holiday callouts often carry a surcharge.
  • VAT: check whether the quote includes VAT; some firms publish prices before VAT.

For a line-by-line checklist, see pest control costs: callouts, follow-up visits and quote comparison, and for rodents specifically, signs of rats and how professional control works.

Rules that affect the price

Anyone offering a pest management service with professional rodenticides must be registered with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine as a Pest Management Trained Professional User and hold a personal PMU number. DAFM publishes a register of approved PMUs and trainee PMUs, so you can ask a technician for their PMU number and check it. Our guide to PMU registration and professional rodenticide use explains the rules in more detail.

Private landlords must also meet the Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations 2019, which require provision to prevent pests getting in and pest-proof bin storage, so in a rented home the cost may not be yours to pay.

FAQs

How much does rat control cost in Ireland?

Published ranges run from about €150–€250 (Central Pest Control) to €280–€450 for two to three visits (HomePros.ie). In Dublin city and county, eligible households can ask the HSE to treat rats for free.

Is wasp nest removal expensive?

It is usually the cheapest job: HomePros.ie reports €69–€150 for one visit, and Central Pest Control publishes €80–€120 for one nest.

Does the council do pest control?

Irish councils generally deal with rats on their own land and in their own housing stock. They do not run a paid domestic pest control service like many UK councils. The free HSE rat service covers Dublin only.

Why is bed bug treatment so dear?

Bed bugs need several visits and careful preparation across every affected room. Reported ranges are €300–€600 (Central Pest Control) and €400–€900 (HomePros.ie).

Who pays in a rented home?

Landlords must make provision to keep pests out under the 2019 rented housing standards. Where the tenant’s own use caused the problem, the landlord may argue otherwise, and the RTB resolves disputes.
