Quick answer: A one-time visit for a common US household pest is reported at roughly $100 to $600, while bed bugs and termites cost far more: $300 to $500 per room for bed bugs and $225 to $2,500 for an exterior termite treatment. Many companies also sell plans, reported at $40 to $75 per monthly visit. These are published typical ranges, not quotes.

Request a free quoteThis guide collects the price ranges that cost-survey publishers report for pest control across the United States, so you have a benchmark before you compare quotes. Every figure below names its source and was checked in September 2026. Where we could not find a published range for a pest, we have left it out rather than guess.
We are a comparison and referral service, not a pest control company. We do not treat properties ourselves and we cannot promise a quote, a price or a response time.
What people pay by pest
These are one-time treatment ranges unless the table says otherwise. They come from HomeGuide, which reports prices from its members’ project costs and its own research. Its main pest control cost guide was last updated on 9 January 2026.

Plans versus one-off visits
A lot of US pest control is sold as a recurring plan, not a one-off treatment. HomeGuide reports these typical prices:
| Service type | Reported typical cost (USD) |
|---|---|
| Monthly plan | $40 to $75 per visit |
| Quarterly plan | $100 to $300 per visit |
| Annual plan | $300 to $900 per year |
| Initial visit on an ongoing plan | $150 to $300 |
| One-time exterminator visit | $100 to $600 |

Why your quote may differ
- Pest and severity. Bed bugs, termites and rodents usually need more visits and more specialist work than ants or spiders.
- Property size and access. Attics, crawl spaces and multi-storey buildings add time.
- Climate and season. HomeGuide notes that prices can rise in peak season in hot, humid or wet areas, where demand is higher.
- Follow-up visits. Many treatments need a return visit. Ask whether it’s included. Our guide to callouts, follow-up visits and quote comparison explains what to compare.
- Repairs and proofing. Sealing entry points, cleaning up and repairing damage are often priced separately.
Free city and county services
Before you pay, check whether your city or county does part of the job for free. The services vary widely:
- New York City: the Health Department inspects properties for rats after a 311 complaint and targets Rat Mitigation Zones. Landlords of buildings with three or more apartments must deal with pests under Local Law 55.
- Chicago: the Department of Streets and Sanitation baits rat burrows after a 311 rodent baiting request.
- Los Angeles County, Harris County and Maricopa County: vector control agencies handle mosquitoes and investigate some other pest complaints.
None of these services replaces a private treatment inside a home. The city pages below explain what each one covers.

Getting a fair price
Ask for at least three written quotes that name the pest, the method, the number of visits and what happens if the pest comes back. Check the company’s state licence (each city page lists the right lookup). For termites, read our guide to termite treatment contracts in the USA before you sign. For bed bugs, see bed bugs in the US: what the EPA says. When you’re ready, you can get a quote through our form.
Common questions
How much does a pest control visit cost in the US?
HomeGuide reports $100 to $600 for a one-time exterminator visit and $40 to $75 per visit on a monthly plan, with an initial visit of $150 to $300 (checked September 2026). Your price depends on the pest, the size of your home and how many visits are needed.
Why are bed bugs and termites so much more expensive?
Both usually need specialist methods and more than one visit. HomeGuide reports $2,500 to $5,000 to treat a whole house for bed bugs, and $2,000 to $8,000 for whole-home termite tenting.
Is a free inspection really free?
Some companies do inspect for free, especially for termites outside property sales, but others charge. HomeGuide reports $75 to $150 for a termite inspection. Ask before the visit.
Can the city get rid of pests for me?
Only in limited cases. Some cities bait public areas or alleys for rats and counties control mosquitoes, but treatment inside a private home is normally the owner’s or landlord’s job. See the city pages above for the details.
Are these prices quotes?
No. They are published typical ranges from a cost-survey publisher. A licensed company has to inspect before it can give you a real price.
